Building an L2 Airframe That Survives J–L Motors
The build side of L2: 38 mm vs 54 mm mounts, rail buttons, kevlar and zipper control, coupler length, and recovery attachments.
By Burn Wire
The free L2 certification article is the exam, the official, and the process. This is the airframe. J, K, and L motors (640–5,120 N·s on the NAR/TRA scale) will find every short coupler, paper-thin fin can, and shock cord tied around a scrap of plywood.
You can certify L2 on a stout 4-inch kit with a 38 mm mount and a documented dual-deploy bay. You can also build something that looks like an L2 rocket and comes apart at the forward centering ring. The difference is boring structure.
